Did you know that local Branches like us rehome around 80% of animals in RSPCA care? Our incredible team of Volunteer Foster Carers ensure that every cat in our care receives the love and compassion they deserve:

Dottie's Story
We received a call from the public regarding a stray cat that had given birth in a supermarket ‘bag for life’. A member of the team safely contained Dottie and her 5 kittens; appropriately named Tess, Berry, George, Spencer and Morris and took them into our care. Can you guess what the kittens were named after?
The first point of call was a health check to ensure there were no underlying conditions or illnesses that needed treatment. We quickly noticed that Dottie did not need much help with her kittens, sadly suggesting this wasn't her first litter. This time though, she wasn't doing it alone. With love and care from her foster carer, Dottie raised her 5 kittens until they were old enough for their forever homes. This gave Dottie her chance to rest, decompress and truly relax away from the stress of the streets.
Once Dottie had had a moment of peace, she was ready for neutering, ensuring that she would never have to raise another litter of kittens again. Dottie's loving and affectionate personality shone through in foster care. It was very clear that all she really wanted was a loving human to serve her every need and provide her with endless cuddles. Our Rehoming Team did just that and found Dottie her perfect Home for Life.

Oscar's Story
Oscar had been living as a stray for 2-3 years and had taken residence in a back garden. He needed medical treatment and a home to call his own and was collected by an RSPCA inspectorate.
Luckily, we had a space available with one of our volunteer foster carers and Oscar settled right in. Oscar was a snotty boy to begin with, so the first step was to identify the cause. After lots of tests and trials of treatments, Oscar was diagnosed with chronic upper respiratory tract disease. A simple powder in his food was key to managing the condition and an indoor lifestyle to prevent further infections.
While in foster care, Oscar wanted one thing and one thing only, cuddles. As many cuddles as he could get, at any hour of the day. He is the definition of ‘lovebug’ and showered his foster carer with head boops, purrs, biscuits and just wanted to be near her or on her lap at all times.
After 4 months of care, Oscar was adopted and has everything he could ever dream of; a choice of laps to sit on, more cuddles than he knows what to do with and a forever home to call his own.
As you've read Dottie and Oscar's stories, you'll have noticed a recurring role, their foster carers. We simply could not help cats in need without them.
